Diwali time is fun time, and like a popular indian advertiserment says ,”Diwali comes only once a year….so enjoy !!!”.And thats what we all do ….enjoy the festive spirit…in short EAT…DRINK AND BE MERRY, and think about the after-effects later., but what if there were NO after effects and you could pick up where you left ?? Well…..most of us will disagree with that , and think that it is impossible…But ….it is possible. All one has to do is to follow just a few simple rules and voila ….nothing gets lost and we start off from where we left, no extra dieting, no extra running or jogging , and no  feeling EXTRA guilty .

RULE 1  LIGHT BREAKFAST Diwali nights are filled with card parties,fatty but yummy food and the oh! so sinful yet delightful sweets. All the lovely ladoos and barfis the list is endless.How can one not have their fill of all this food(read heavy food)? but a heavy dinner needs to be balanced out with a light breakfast.It not only signifies a balancing of calories but also giving the tummy a much needed rest after the endless round of Diwali parties.So, always follow Rule 1 of having a light breakfast of low fat milk, a bowl of fruits, a bowl of curds, or just a glass of lassi.

RULE 2  CLEANSING LUNCH One of the most common feeling around Diwali time is that of discomfort due to a heavy stomach, bloating and dehydration. The  feeling of an uncleared tummy. We desperately want to feel light again so we can enjoy yet another party, but, we can’t seem to feel light again.So, time to follow Rule 2- Eat a cleansing lunch ,comprising of mostly fresh green salads with a light dressing, a bowl of raita or steamed / sauted veggies carefully and consciously avoiding non-veg food, roti or rice. This will give your body lots of fibre, which along with lots of water will help clean your tummy in a jiffy !! You will feel light and ready for a Diwali party again.

RULE 3 HYDRATE…..DRINK, DRINK,DRINK !!! Another common irritant along with the friendly hangover is that of a parched throat and stretched skin.Water and only water is the cure for it.Drink and drink some more and you will find a feeling of huge relief sweeping all over you in a matter of minutes.So, along with the other festivities dont forget to drink water and enjoy more !!!! The golden rule is 1:1, that is to follow each alchohlic drink with at least 1 glass of water.

RULE 4 DETOXIFY  There is yet another rule to be followed but, only after Diwali…DETOXIFY….Once the Diwali fever has finally settled, it is time to clean and re-juvenate your body, and also get rid of all the after effects.Thus the next 2-3 days should be dedicated to lots of water, fluids as fresh lime and lassi,only fruits, curds and may be an occasional bowl of steamed veggies.  All these 4 golden rules will let you enjoy to the hilt …so, go ahead let your hair down    and enjoy……HAPPY DIWALI
