1. MYTH – “SKIPPING A MEAL WILL HELP ME IN LOSING WEIGHT”
FACT- This probably is one of the most common and enduring myth, whereas the fact is actually CONTRARY to his myth. If we miss a meal, we get extremely hungry by the time the next meal is served which directly results in not only overeating (which a few people do know) but also eating at a much faster rate. This is because we are hungry and therefore the feeling of hunger does not allow the brain to tell us when to stop. Even lesser known is that apart from common problems as acidity and indigestion, skipping a meal has a more adverse long term consequence on the body. It slows down the metabolic rate of the body which reduces the calorie burning capacity of the body and instead of losing weight our weight becomes stagnant. This is very frustrating for dieters as they tend to cut down their meals even further in order to somehow lose weight, leading them into a vicious circle of eating even lesser and lesser, albeit with very little or no success.
2. MYTH “THE LESSER YOU EAT THE MORE WEIGHT YOU WILL LOSE”
FACT- One of the biggest myths is that the lesser we eat the more weight we will lose. This is not correct, when we eat less our body kicks into the survival mechanism which feels that there is a state of famine and since there is an uncertainty of knowing when to expect the next meal, the body starts conserving fat(weight) instead of losing it, so our weight becomes stagnant and the weighing scale does not comply no matter how less or frequently we eat.
3. MYTH”CUTTING DOWN ON MILK AND MILK PRODUCTS HELPS TP LOSE WEIGHT FASTER”
FACT- According to the recent researches in the field of nutrition, studies indicate that people who had more dairy products included in their daily diets, ended up losing weight up to 30% faster than the people in whose diets dairy products were not included. Cutting down on milk and milk products such as curds, paneer does not help in weight loss unless the intake is of full cream milk and dairy products. Dairy products provide the much needed calcium and protein for the body, preventing disease like osteoporosis and joint pains as we grow older. Switching from full cream dairy products to fat free or low fat ones can be positive first step towards weight loss.
4. MYTH – ‘ONLINE DIETS DON’T WORK’
FACT- Any diet whether online or otherwise can work for anybody if it is suited to your lifestyle. A diet which is tailor-made for you and focuses on your likes, dislikes, food habits and most importantly your lifestyle is bound to work because your diet works for you and you don’t have to work for your diet. It just becomes a part of your daily routine and requires little or no extra effort. Slowly, but surely you start losing weight and get further motivated to keep moving in that direction.
5. MYTH ‘5 MEALS A DAY CAN NEVER MAKE YOU LOSE WEIGHT’
FACTS- If the right kind of food is eaten at the right time, in the proper quantity it actually increases the BMR of our body, or in simpler words the rate at which your body burns calories, hence the more food we eat of the right kind, thee more calories we end up burning. Thus the weight loss is actually faster and in a healthier fashion.
