The boat passes through the creek – once from this side in the early evening, and then from the other side in the early night. This is how one of the residents of a small house on the bank of the Mombasa Creek narrated to me about the boat that carried few people who wined, dined, jazzed and danced through the steely waters of the Creek in dark nights of the sleepy Kenyan town of Mombasa. I had to make my way inside the boat one evening to be greeted by the drumbeats of local music and a refreshingly ocean-blue cocktail. A three course dinner preceded by cherished beer and other aperitifs, accompanied by smooth wine and followed by a performance of song and dance by the local artists …… this was the dinner boat cruise in Mombasa.
The song and dance performance, many years later, by the waitresses and waiters of a specialty restaurant in the city of Cape Town rekindled my cherished dining experience in Mombasa. And, my journey continued in exploring the novelty, uniqueness and fusion that painted the canvas of culinary experiences in Africa that rule the heart of this gastronomical hedonist.
Some such experience …… over to you.
